CTEC Art and Design student Abi Massey and her winning design.
From February 26th to 29th, the Proteus Creation Space welcomed the vibrant creativity of second-year students enrolled in the Cambridge Technical (CTEC) Art and Design course at Queen Mary’s College. Teaming up with the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, students had the opportunity to create their own design to be painted on a bench as part of the ‘Streets Alive’ project.
Following a brief period of public voting, Abi Massey emerged triumphant with her captivating design, garnering the highest number of votes. Her design includes the popular Basingstoke shopping destination, ‘Festival Place’, as well as some friendly characters inspired by artist, Kevin Lyon. Now, Abi will transform her vision into reality as she sets out to paint the bench in spring, with its final destination at 16 Winchester Street.
The celebration of our CTEC Art and Design students doesn’t end there. In an internal competition with a chance for one of the students’ design to be painted as a mural for the College, Wiki Gil’s spectacular rendition of Queen Mary’s College has been chosen to grace the walls of our Student Support Hub. Her design of the college perfectly fits the hub designed as a safe space for students and their wellbeing.
