High Achievers

Welcome to QMC’s Triple A+ Programme…
Exceptional support and guidance to help high-performing students achieve their academic ambitions and prepare for entry to top universities, competitive degree programmes, and rewarding careers.

What is the Triple A+ Programme?
The ‘Triple A+’ Programme at Queen Mary’s College is designed to support our most able students in making aspirational academic choices and achieving their full potential. This programme provides opportunities for students to engage with higher-level academic work and broaden their skills beyond their chosen curriculum. It also caters to talented young athletes, dancers, musicians, and performers at national and international levels, offering dedicated links into those departments.

Exceptional performance at GCSE is often a strong indicator of success at A Level, which is why we encourage students in the Triple A+ Programme to aim high, whether pursuing degrees at Oxbridge, Russell Group universities, or competitive degree apprenticeships.

How are students selected?
Students are invited to join the Triple A+ Programme based on their predicted grades during the application process. Typically, applicants will have an average GCSE score of 7 across their subjects. Early applicant events provide guidance and support for those who meet the entry criteria, helping them prepare for the programme before starting college.

“The help and support is personalised and available at any time. Also, the talks have been really good to make sure we are clear on what we need to do and how to do those things.”

What does the Programme include?

  • Personalised support with personal statements, entrance exam preparation, and mock interviews.
  • Mentoring and subject specialist support from the Oxford University Society and subject-specific experts.
  • Debates, mentoring, and super-curricular academic extension opportunities, including research projects, specialist work placements, and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
  • Guest speakers and leading academics, who share their personal journeys, expertise, and insights into various fields.
  • Specialist tutor groups with experienced Oxbridge, medical, and academic tutors.
  • Access to enrichment opportunities such as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and cultural trips, alongside industry insight days, internships, and summer schools.
  • A broad programme of academic and cultural events, designed to widen students’ horizons, encourage social engagement, and develop leadership skills.

Students in the Triple A+ Programme will also have the opportunity to engage with Oxbridge support and other widening participation initiatives, such as the Cambridge HE+ Programme. These offer alternatives to the EPQ through research-based projects, providing valuable preparation for university applications and career development.
