We will work with you throughout your time at College to ensure that you get all the support you need with researching your career options, university choices, jobs and apprenticeships and making successful applications.

Every year Queen Mary’s College students gain places at a wide range of universities or FE Colleges, including Russell Group, Oxford and Cambridge universities, to study traditional academic courses, medical training courses as well as vocational degrees, performing arts courses and many more. Our students also benefit from a wide range of apprenticeship and job opportunities which they are supported in researching and applying for, many following this pathway as an alternative to university.

While at QMC you will develop essential study and personal organisational skills that will make you an attractive candidate to universities and employers. Your time at College will enable you to develop the confidence and maturity to interview well and to make the most of your progression opportunities.

University

Traditionally this is the route from sixth form colleges. QMC will help you to enhance your profile and make you a stronger applicant; not just for gaining offers to your preferred universities but also to ensure success when you get there. We will:

Prepare you to study at university:
• Develop independent learning skills
• Manage your own study periods
• Take part in independent research
• Take Enrichment Courses to build your experience and your personal statement

Enable Academic Specialisation
Some career paths clearly require students to have studied particular subjects at Level 3 before being able to study them
at university. QMC acts as a stepping stone to university and enables you to start specialising in chosen fields.

Enable you to gain Generic Qualifications
Studying facilitating subjects at QMC will open up lots of opportunities and allows you to keep your options open.

QMC’s Success
The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) released figures that demonstrate that a higher percentage of QMC students gained first class or upper class degrees compared to their counterparts in other sixth form colleges and state school sixth-forms

For students studying at the most prestigious Russell Group of universities, 85% of ex-QMC graduates were awarded these classifications, 10% higher than the sixth form college or independent sector averages.

Higher Level Apprenticeships

If you’re interested in securing an apprenticeship QMC will help you to enhance your prospects by:

Building a platform of transferable skills:
You’ll be able to transition more comfortably into the world of work, and will be a more attractive candidate to employers.

Accessing an improved quality of apprenticeships:
Studying at College will improve the chances of securing a Higher Level Apprenticeship when you leave. These offer enhanced salaries and
employee benefits when compared to options available for Year 11 school leavers.

Benefitting from links with employers:
QMC enjoys strong links with reputable
local, national, and global companies. A whole array of exciting and often unique opportunities are presented to QMC students, who go on to secure excellent apprenticeships with great success.
