The Esports course at Queen Mary’s College has been designed to help students acquire the skills and knowledge to progress to university courses or employment in this exciting and engaging area. As the largest provider of BTEC Esports in the UK, with our own dedicated esports arenas, Queen Mary’s College can offer unique industry specialists and contacts.
We offer the Esports Single (Extended Certificate equivalent to 1 A Level). The course is designed to be studied alongside two further subjects. Depending on your career interest, there are a plethora of courses/subjects which complements Esports such as Business Studies, Media, English, Mathematics, Computing/Computer Science and more.

Which units will I study?
Please note that Esports is designed to be studied alongside two other subjects/courses.
Esports Single Award (equivalent to 1 A Level)
Units: Covers four mandatory foundational units about the esports industry.
Focus: Concentrates on essential skills and knowledge, providing a solid foundation.
Workload: More manageable, suitable for balancing with other subjects.
Suitability: Best for students who want a good understanding of esports without the need for in-depth/specialised knowledge or those combining it with a varied educational portfolio.
Where can this course take me?
Queen Mary’s College is proud to be working alongside Belong Gaming Arenas and YoYoTech. This exciting collaboration with locally-based partners provides QMC students with a host of skills and opportunities, including contact with esports industry experts, work experience and bespoke preparation and training for national competitions.
The Esports industry is a burgeoning sector in the UK, particularly concentrated in the South of England. Esports has seen dramatic growth in recent years, creating thousands of new jobs in the entertainment industry worldwide and the current industry is values at over $1.2 billion. As well as in gaming itself, career opportunities are wide and varied and include Event Management, Sales and Marketing, Broadcasting, Coaching, Streaming, Human Resources and many more of the roles typically associated with running large scale businesses that are seen esports as an industry be valued into the high billions. QMC will offer you a unique route into this career and will be led by a national trainer who helped devise the qualification itself.
Students will develop a solid grounding in ways to analyse, research, plan and produce esports products, create their own LAN events and look in depth at the business aspect of the industry.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Our enrichment programme remains robust, continuing to feature both competitive Esports and Esports escapism. We are excited to introduce a new enrichment opportunity: livestreaming. This initiative is spearheaded by an experienced broadcasting engineer, proficient in delivering live Esports content internationally. Participants will engage with advanced livestreaming technology and assume vital roles in the weekly management of broadcasts under our ‘QM Samurai’ brand.
